Spring events are plentiful at Downers Grove Park District

As spring approaches, the Downers Grove Park District is offering events for all ages. There is everything from a virtual 5K run to drive-in movies. Hatch Out Virtual 5K

All ages

When: March 26 to April 4

Cost: Residents: $25. Nonresidents: $30

Info: Celebrate the start of spring with the Hatch Out Virtual 5K for all ages. Participants can choose a time and route, or use the park district’s suggested route, to run or walk between March 26 and April 4. Registration includes a shirt, finisher’s medal and virtual goodie bag. For those who want to track and share their run/walk experience, instructions will be shared for the RunKeeper app. Packet pickup will be curbside from 3 to 7 p.m. March 25 at the Downers Grove Recreation Center, 4500 Belmont Road. Registration is available online only at dgparks.org/news/hatchout and ends March 18.

Fortnight 1v1 Duos Tournament

When: 4 to 9 p.m. March 26 and April 23

Cost: Residents: $10. Nonresident: $16

Info: Proficient gamers ages 11 to 20 can participate in a virtual Fortnite 1v1 Duos tournament for a chance to win V-Buck prizes. The tournament is for the more advanced player who has played in previous tournaments and is more experienced building and has higher XP levels. Players are required to have the Discord app for communication. An email will be sent the day before the tournament containing the rules, a link to the Discord private chatroom and a link to the online bracket with assigned bracket group and start time. Fortnight Beginner

Ages 8 to 14

When: 4 to 8 p.m. April 9 and May 7

Cost: Residents: $10. Nonresidents: $16

Info: Beginner gamers can participate in this virtual Fortnite 1v1 Duos tournament. The tournament is for the occasional player, with lower XP levels, still becoming proficient at building. Players are required to have the Discord app for communication. An email will be sent the day before the tournament containing the rules, a link to the Discord private chatroom and a link to the online bracket with assigned bracket group and start time. V-Buck prizes will be awarded to the winners. Register online at dgparks.org.

Drive-In Movie: E.T.

When: 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. April 9 and 10

Where: Downers Grove Golf Club, 2420 Haddow Ave.

Cost: Per vehicle, residents: $25. Nonresidents: $35

Info: Registration is required. No on-site registration will be available. All vehicles must be registered with car make and model. Registration and fee is per car (not per person). The person registering the vehicle must be 16 years or older. Attendees will receive an email with assigned parking row and safety guidelines. Parking lot will open at 8 p.m. and the movie will begin at dusk. Movie is rated PG. Sound will be transmitted over an FM radio station. Register online at dgparks.org.

Road Rally

Ages 18 and over

When: 3 to 7:30 p.m. April 24

Where: Bolingbrook Park District

Cost: Per team, resident: $109. Nonresident: $129

Info: Create a team of four to six adults per vehicle. Participants will get a map and bag of clues and will need teamwork, logic and luck to stay on track. The four-hour scavenger hunt on wheels is coordinated with the Bolingbrook, Lisle, Naperville and Woodridge park districts. Space is limited. Award ceremony will be virtual. Registration deadline is noon April 21. Captain’s letters and COVID-19 guidelines/protocols will be emailed the week before the event. An email address is required upon registration. Caddy Shack Trivia Night

Ages 21 and over

When: 5 to 7 p.m. April 25

Cost: Per team, resident: $35. Nonresident: $40

Info: Put your skills to the test during this virtual evening featuring a wine tasting and trivia. Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers. Registration includes a party pack for four complete with golf-themed items. Before the event, participants will be emailed a list of wine to purchase. The virtual event will take place on Zoom and will begin with a wine tasting by a wine professional, followed by the trivia contest. Teams will play from their team captain’s mobile device using the Kahoot app. Only one team per household (1 to 4 players) may register. Questions will be answered by a team captain. Additional instructions will be provided. Registration ends April 18. Be prepared to list teammates during the registration process online at dgparks.org.

Info: Spend a spring day at Country in the Park—part of the annual Downers Grove Founders Day celebration sponsored by the Grove Foundation. Families will visit with farm animals, play 1850s pioneer-era games and view blacksmithing demonstrations. This event is free, but requires advance registration. No walk-ins will be permitted.
