Mazzochi named to GOP leadership

State Rep. Deanne Mazzochi, R-Elmhurst, on Monday was named assistant minority leader for the Illinois House Republican Caucus.

Mazzochi has represented the 47th House District in Springfield since July 2018.

During her tenure, she has cosponsored multiple bills including legislation on pension transparency, against ethylene oxide pollution and has advocated for property tax relief for homeowners as co-chair of the Property Tax Relief Task Force. Mazzochi has also targeted public corruption, serving on the Special Investigation Committee involving recently-ousted House Speaker Mike Madigan.

Mazzochi was appointed by House Minority Leader Jim Durkin, R-Western Springs.

“Deanne’s drive to clean up Springfield makes her a leader on its own,” Durkin said in a news release. “Her work on the Special Investigating Committee highlighted her thoroughness and legal skills, and her background in science has been invaluable to the House chamber during the COVID-19 crisis. Deanne will not stop until justice is served, and she will serve as a check on everyone in the General Assembly.”

“I appreciate this opportunity to serve our caucus; my district, county and state, and thank Leader Durkin for his confidence and trust,” Mazzochi said in the release. “The people of Illinois face unique and demanding challenges, and I look forward to helping the entire General Assembly meet their needs.

“The General Assembly sees thousands of bills each year. We need to improve the quality of legislation that we pass; restore reasoned, meaningful debate; and take bold leadership steps to move our state in a better direction,” she added.

In addition to serving in the General Assembly, Mazzochi is a small business owner, founding partner of her law firm and lives with her family in Elmhurst.
