Second juvenile charged in Hinsdale auto dealership burglary detained until court date

A second juvenile charged with burglary and theft of a high-end vehicle from two Hinsdale auto dealerships will be detained until at least his next court date on June 23, according to a DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office news release.

The juvenile, who is 15 years old, has been charged with six counts of armed violence, three counts of aggravated unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle, two counts of burglary, one count of unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle and two counts of criminal damage to property, the release stated.

On May 17, at approximately 2:21 a.m., Hinsdale police responded to an activated burglar alarm at Land Rover/Jaguar of Hinsdale Auto Dealership, 336 E. Ogden Ave. Officers found a broken window in an overhead garage door with glass inside.

While investigating at the Land Rover/Jaguar dealership, police were dispatched to another alarm at Continental Motor Sports, 420 E. Ogden Ave. At Continental Motor Sports, officers found a broken window and a running 2018 red Ferrari convertible, valued at more than $250,000, driven outside of the service bay into the rear lot, allegedly by the juvenile, according to the release.

When police encountered another individual with a crowbar standing next to the padlock on the rear gate, the individual allegedly ran to and entered a nearby car and fled. A Hinsdale squad car made contact with the fleeing vehicle and disabled it at which time three individuals fled the vehicle on foot, the release stated.

One of the fleeing men allegedly exited the vehicle with a gun in his hand. After a brief foot pursuit, this individual and another man, RaJohn Stewart, 24, of the 100 block of Williamsburg Road, Country Club Hills, were arrested, according to the release.

On May 18, Stewart appeared at a bond hearing where bond was set at $250,000. He posted bond the same day and was released from custody. His next court date is scheduled for June 23. The first juvenile, from Cook County, allegedly involved in the crime remains in custody.

Following a search of the area, police found a 9 mm pistol and a 30-round extended 9 mm magazine. A fourth individual was in the rear lot of Continental Motor Sports and fled on foot when police arrived, the release stated. An investigation found that the vehicle in which the men allegedly fled was reported stolen out of Chicago on May 9.

The juvenile was taken into custody on June 15 at approximately 2:20 p.m. from a residence in Chicago. An investigation continues. Anyone with relevant information is asked to contact the Hinsdale Police Department at 630-789-7089.

“At the young age of 15, the juvenile charged in this case is now facing multiple serious felony offenses,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in the release.”The identification and apprehension of this juvenile demonstrates the Hinsdale Police Department’s commitment to seeing a case through from beginning to end. I have no doubt that thanks to their efforts anyone allegedly involved in this crime will be held accountable.”
