Glendale Heights juvenile accused of stabbing released to mother’s custody

A Glendale Heights juvenile accused of stabbing another juvenile in the abdomen will be released to the custody of his mother on home detention lockdown, according to a DuPage County State’s Attorney ‘s Office news release.

The juvenile will be fitted with a GPS monitoring device and will be allowed to leave the home only for doctor or attorney appointments and school. Additionally, the juvenile was ordered to have no contact with the victim or the victim’s twin-brother and is ordered not to possess any weapons. The juvenile, who is 12 years old, is charged with two counts of aggravated battery.

On Tuesday, at approximately 4:08 p.m., Glendale Heights police responded to a call of a fight near the 500 block of James Court. Upon their arrival, police found the victim, a 12-year-old male, suffering from two apparent stab wounds to his abdomen.

The juvenile was transported to a local hospital for medical attention. He is expected to recover from his injuries.

The juvenile and victim allegedly were engaged in a dispute via Snapchat. The pair agreed to meet to fight. When the pair met at James Court, the juvenile took out a Batman novelty knife with a 3-inch blade on both ends, allegedly stabbed the victim twice and ran away.The defendant was found a short time later approximately 100 yards away from where the stabbing allegedly occurred.

“I would like to commend the Glendale Heights Police Department for their quick response and apprehension of the suspect in this case,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement. “Thankfully, the victim’s injuries are not considered to be life-threatening. What I find particularly disturbing about this case is the age of the accused.”

“I would like to thank the residents of Glendale Heights who assisted our officers in the safe and efficient arrest of the suspect in this case,” Glendale Heights Police Chief Douglas Flint said in a statement “I would also like to thank the men and women of the Glendale Heights Police Department for their quick response and arrest of the juvenile as well as the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office for their assistance and legal guidance.”

The juvenile’s next court appearance is scheduled for July 1 for a status hearing.
