High school sports roundup for Saturday, Oct. 9: Willowbrook volleyball wins Elk Grove Invite, improves to 26-0 on season

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Willowbrook

The Warriors beat Resurrection to win the championship of the Elk Grove Invite and improve to 26-0 on the season. Calli Kenny had 12 kills and three digs, Hannah Kenny six kills and five assists and Katie Linnig 12 assists and four digs.

Willowbrook also beat Streamwood 25-11, 25-9, Hoffman Estates 25-7, 25-17 and Crystal Lake South 25-14, 25-19

Montini

The Lady Broncos went 5-0 to win the Latin Tourney, beating IC Catholic Prep 25-14, 25-17, Fenwick 25-15, 25-16, Latin 25-8, 25-6, Von Steuben 25-9, 25-6 and IC Catholic 29-27, 25-22.

Ariana Joubert had 18 kills, Hailey Goetz 52 assists and 10 digs, Jordan Heatherly 38 kills, 72 assists and 19 digs and Paige Pickering 38 kills and 15 blocks for the tournament.

Nazareth

The Roadrunners beat Glenbrook North 25-17, 25-19 to win the championship of the Glenbrook North Discovery Tournament. Nazareth went 5-0 at the tournament, also beating Buffalo Grove 25-15, 25-15, Evanston 25-14, 25-18 and Libertyville 25-22, 25-20 in pool play and Loyola 25-14, 25-19 in the semifinals.

Katie Hurta had 44 kills and 37 assists, Kitty Sandt 29 kills and 46 assists, Gillian Grimes 66 digs and 13 aces and Abby Reid 28 digs and nine aces for the tournament.

“I am extremely  proud of our team for the consistent improvement and growth they have been showing and their strong play all weekend,” Nazareth coach Melissa Vandrey said. “Every player was able to contribute in a big way this weekend, even in the finals. We had an injury that kept starting MB, Ivy Schoditsch, out for both matches today but the team rallied behind her, stepped up where they needed to and didn’t miss a beat.”

GIRLS TENNIS

St. Francis

The Spartans took the team title at the Metro Suburban Conference meet in Elmhurst. St. Francis took first at No. 2 singles, No. 2 doubles, No. 3 doubles and No. 4 doubles.
