High school sports roundup for Thursday, April 15: Benet boys soccer wins matchup of 2019 state champs with West Chicago

BOYS SOCCER

Benet 2, West Chicago 1

Anthony Klos and Andy Nash scored goals, both assisted by Hans Haenicke, and the Redwings (13-1) won the matchup of the 2019 Class 2A and Class 3A state champions. Nolan Hart had four saves in goal.

Morton 4, Leyden 3

Jesus Perez scored on a rebound shot with 11:20 remaining, his second goal of the game, and the Mustangs beat the Eagles to clinch the West Suburban Gold championship. Julian Guzman and Johnny Murillo also scored for Morton.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Glenbard South d. Streamwood 25-17, 25-17

Brittany Miller had seven kills and 11 digs, Coco Stachnik six kills, 12 digs and two aces and Helen Maurer 13 assists for the Raiders (5-8, 5-2 Upstate Eight Conference), who won their fourth straight match. Alex Wilharm added five kills and Gianna Coluzzi five digs and three aces.

Timothy Christian d. St. Edward 25-5, 25-16

Campbell Marshall had 19 assists, four digs and two aces, Hannah Schuringa six kills and eight digs, Greta Hoogstra six kills and four aces, Alli Myers 12 digs and Hope Huizenga four kills for the Trojans (5-4, 5-4 Metro Suburban Conference).

Lemont d. Hillcrest 25-9, 25-8

Hannah Niklewicz had seven kills, Amanda Rice five kills and Paige Connolly had 12 assists and 11 aces for Lemont.

Glenbard East def. Bartlett 25-23, 25-20

Madison Manning had 11 kills and eight digs, Cassie Schweikle four kills, and Julia Slusher and Kendall Crackel nine digs for the Rams (9-3, 8-0 Upstate Eight Conference). Lauren Huber added four digs and two aces, Becca Honig six assists and five digs and Riley Alstott eight assists and five digs.

Willowbrook d. Addison Trail 25-10, 25-14

Katie Linnig had 11 assists and six digs, Calli Kenny had nine kills and 10 digs and Grace Reckamp had nine kills and five assists for the Warriors (7-2, 5-0 West Suburban Gold). Elizabeth Bruschuk added 11 digs.

BASEBALL

Nazareth 5, Morgan Park 2 (8 innings)

Luke Brabham struck out eight over five one-hit innings, Drew Duxbury struck out four over three, and Sebastian Gutierrez had two hits and two RBIs for the Roadrunners (3-0). Justin Gutierrez had two hits and a run scored and Lucas Smith drove in a run.

Lyons 12, Downers Grove North 7

Noah Jouras went 3-for-5 with four RBIs, Jack McNamara had two hits and runs scored and Bo Karlson two hits and two RBIs for the Lions (2-0, 2-0). James Blokell earned the victory on the mound, striking out three and allowing three hits in two shutout innings.

GIRLS SOCCER

Wheaton Academy 9, Elmwood Park 0

Kelly Bickhart scored two goals, and Lily Lebo and Haley Serna each had a goal and an assist for Wheaton Academy in its season opener.

Wheaton North 4, Metea Valley 1

Macy Hutchinson, Claudia Kim, Kayla Shebar and Julia Simon each scored goals for the Falcons in their season opener.

St. Francis 5, Riverside-Brookfield 0

Katherine Lemke had a goal and an assist, and Claire Reinke, Tristan Grosam and Lauren Bruce also had goals for the Spartans.
