High school sports roundup for Thursday, Nov. 18: Nazareth girls basketball wins big in season opener

Nazareth 66, St. Edward 9

Gracie Carstensen scored 22 points and Olivia Austin added 16 for the Roadrunners (1-0) in their season opener at the Hinsdale South Thanksgiving Tournament.

Montini 76, East Aurora 31

Victoria Matulevicius had 18 points and seven rebounds and Sam Mogilinski 18 points with four 3-pointers for the Lady Broncos (2-0) at the Willowbrook Thanksgiving Tournament. Shannon Blacher added 15 points.

St. Francis 51, Morton 35

Katherine Lilly scored 15 points, Katie Anne De Craene added 13, Lauren Bruce 12 and Dolly Smith 11 with two 3-pointers for the Spartans (1-0) in their season opener.

Fenwick 54, Regina Dominican 22

Mira Schwanke had 12 points, five steals and four rebounds and Amanda Hansen added eight points and five rebounds for the Friars (2-0), as head coach Dave Power earned his 999th career win. Power can win his 1,000th on Friday against Taft. Audrey Hinrichs chipped in seven points and five rebounds.

Deerfield 45, Wheaton Warrenville South 36

Lily Huntzinger scored 10 points and Elie Farrell seven points and five rebounds for the Tigers, who dug themselves a 15-4 hole after one quarter they couldn’t quite recover from at the Schaumburg Tournament.
