High school sports roundup for Saturday, May 15: Kora Navarro homers, strikes out 16 for Montini softball

SOFTBALL

Montini 4, St. Laurence 0

Kora Navarro homered and struck out 16 on the mound, Erin Grimsley scored twice and doubled in a run and Taylor Utrata had an RBI single for the Lady Broncos.

Willowbrook 5, Oak Park-River Forest 2

Caroline Dooley struck out seven and allowed two unearned runs, Caitlyn Kulczyski hit a leadoff homer and Grace Hayes added a two-run shot for the Warriors (6-4), who won their fifth straight game.

Wheaton North 1-12, Naperville North 7-9

Ellie Hubbard homered with two outs in the seventh to break up a Naperville North no-hit bid in the first game, and Hubbard and Lauren Vaughn both homered for the Falcons in the second game. Hubbard was 2-for-3 with the homer, triple, RBI and three runs scored and Vaughn had two RBIs and a run scored.

Hubbard and Vaughn’s homers were both their sixth of the season, and Hubbard broke the school’s season RBI record with her 32nd.

BASEBALL

Nazareth 6-11, Notre Dame 2-1

Sebastian Gutierrez (2-0) struck out six over 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on five hits, and Luca Fiore struck out four in 1.2 innings to earn the save in Game 1. Luke Brabham was 2-4 with three RBIs and Bobby Kutt was 1-3 with two runs scored.

In the second game freshman Nick Drtina struck out three in a complete game, and Brabham was 2-for-3 with a grand slam. Wylder Guido and Cooper Malamazian added two hits each for the Roadrunners (19-6).

Montini 10, DePaul Prep 1

Kyle Flynn went 2-for-2 with a homer and four RBIs for the Broncos (11-7), who won their sixth straight game and swept the CCL series.

Downers Grove North 11, Proviso West 0

Michael Gorman picked up his third win of the season and the Trojans (11-7, 7-5) completed a three-game sweep.

GIRLS SOCCER

Downers Grove South 8, Addison Trail 0

Priscilla Plascencia had a hat trick with three goals and Maya Wilson, Mallory Qualizza, Erin Davy, Grace Rappel and Gabi Galvez each scored one goal for the Mustangs.
