High school sports roundup for Monday, May 3: Wheaton North’s Erin Metz, Lemont’s Maddy Wallace throw no-hitters


Wheaton North 5, Glenbard North 0

Erin Metz threw a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts, and Lauren Vaughn hit her fifth homer and had three RBIs for the Falcons (3-1 DuKane Conference).

Wheaton Warrenville South 6, Batavia 0

Katey Pierce struck out nine in a two-hit shutout, and doubles by Katie Jensen and Pierce sparked a six-run third inning for the Tigers (7-5, 2-2 DuKane Conference).

Lemont 12, T.F. South 0

Maddy Wallace struck out 12 in a five-inning no-hitter and had a double and two RBIs for the Indians. Reagan Duncan went 2-for-3 with a double, triple and two RBIs for Lemont (8-3, 7-0).

York 2, Lyons 0

Lauren Derkowski struck out 18 batters in a one-hit shutout, and Emily Fujiwara hit a solo home run for the Dukes. Derkowski struck out the first 14 batters she faced before surrendering the only hit of the night. Molly Loch had a steal of home for York.


Nazareth 2, Marian Catholic 1

Sebastian Gutierrez hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth and John Hughes struck out the side in the seventh for the Roadrunners (13-3, 4-3 ESCC).

Ryan Smith struck out nine and allowed one unearned run on three hits and three walks in 5.2 innings. Hughes struck out four in relief.

Aurora Christian 11, Westmont 1

Luke Szyszka went 2-for-3 with a double and run scored and Jason Czaplewski had an RBI for Westmont (2-14).

Wheaton Academy 10, Elmwood Park 0

Ryan Skala struck out nine in five shutout innings and went 3-for-4 at the plate with two singles, a triple and five RBIs for the Warriors. Hudson Williams went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Downers Grove North 9, Oak Park-River Forest 8

The Trojans scored a run in the bottom of the seventh after Oak Park scored four in the top half to tie it. Alex White struck out nine over 6.2 innings for Downers Grove North. Angus Nemeth had three hits.

Lyons 5, Proviso West 1

Ryan Kudia notched the win for the Lions (7-3).


Glenbard East def Naperville North 25-16, 25-23

Trevor Real had nine kills and five digs, Jack Austin five kills and two blocks and Connor Soto 15 assists for the Rams (4-2).
