Monica Schild brings her passion for community to the Grundy County Economic Development Council

The Grundy Economic Development Council (GEDC) is pleased to welcome Monica Schild as the new Business Director.

MORRIS- Monica Schild is excited for the opportunity to serve her community as the new business director of the Grundy County Economic Development Council.

Schild is a life-long resident of Grundy County and was raised with a passion for contributing to her community. Her parents owned Wunderlich Travel Agency in Joliet, being raised by small business owners taught Schild the importance of having local resources available.

“My father modeled the importance of being connected to the community,” said Schild. “I was taught from an early age that connections can really enrich your life. I’m looking forward to woking with businesses in the area to see what they need to help grow and stay in the community. To make sure the businesses in the area have the local resources in the community to stay open.”

Schild joins the organization with excellent professional skills. She earned a master’s degree from the University of St. Francis and graduated Cum Laude from Northwestern University, as well as worked the past five years as a teacher at Minooka School District 201.

“Working in the school systems part of the job is ensuring that the mission of schools is supported by the local economy. Working with the GEDC will allow me to assist the local economy and help ensure local schools met their goals,” said Schild.

The position became available when its previous business director, Nikki Wills, announced she would be transitioning to a part-time job within the office as one of her first steps toward full retirement.

“We were very pleased with the pool of candidates and Monica rose to the top,” GEDC President & CEO Nancy Norton said. “She was born and raised in Grundy County and her commitment to the community was a big plus. I am excited for the energy and knowledge she will bring to our organization.”

Schild begins her new position Feb. 7

“I am thrilled about the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the GEDC’s work as its business director,” Schild said. “Having grown up in this area, my goal has always been to make a positive and tangible impact in this community. In this role, I look forward to learning from and collaborating with all of the talented professionals working to ensure a bright future for Grundy County’s economy, its businesses and its residents.”
