Local Grundy County children treated to 3rd annual holiday shopping spree with local heroes

Event will take place this Saturday

MORRIS – The nonprofit group Grundy County Heroes & Helpers will treat 106 local Grundy County children in need to a $150 Christmas shopping spree with local heroes including police, sheriff, fire and emergency medical service providers from throughout the county at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 11. The shopping spree will take place at the Morris Walmart with children matched with a hero and volunteer helpers to shop for necessities such as clothes, shoes, coats, etc.

After the shopping spree, the children will be treated to lunch, toys and a visit with Santa at First Christian Church in Morris. New, unwrapped toys have been donated by the community via toy drives and fundraisers throughout the year. More than 50 heroes and 75 helpers will volunteer their time to make this a special event for children in need in Grundy County.

Children will be bused from First Christian Church at 455 W. Southmore Road in Morris, with their hero and helper to Walmart beginning at 8:30 a.m. in 30-minute intervals.

Heroes & Helpers believes every child deserves a joyous and magical Christmas, while also understanding that families can fall upon hard times for many reasons. Members wish to come alongside families to provide toys, clothing, shoes and holiday cheer in hopes to ease the burden this Christmas season while also fostering positive and healthy relationships with police, fire and ems personnel.
