Morris Theatre Guild announces auditions for next show

Will take place Sunday, Aug. 8 at 516 W. Illinois Ave.

MORRIS – Morris Theatre Guild will hold auditions for its next production, “Squabbles” by Marshall Karp, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the MTG theater, 516 W. Illinois Ave. The cast calls for four males and three females.

This hilarious play pits a father-in-law against a mother in a comedic succession of squabbles. Jerry Sloan is a successful writer of advertising jingles married to an equally successful lawyer, Alice. Living with the happy couple is the not-so-happy Abe Dreyfus, Jerry’s curmudgeon of a father-in-law. Abe is a funny guy to the audience, not to Jerry. The situation is exacerbated when Jerry’s mother, Mildred, loses her house in a fire and needs a place to stay. Abe and Mildred can’t stand each other. Add to the mix a Latino handyman, a retired pharmacist neighbor, and a governess to join the craziness. This play is one hilarious confrontation after another until the heartwarming finale in which the oldsters discover that, really, each is not so bad.

Auditions will include cold readings, so no preparation is needed. Anyone interested in joining this fun cast is encouraged to attend. Performance dates are Oct. 15-24 on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. For information, go to morristheatreguild.org or the Facebook page for Morris Theatre Guild.
