Morris Theatre Guild presenting ‘Yankee Tavern’ this weekend

Shows to take place July 30, 31 and Aug. 1

MORRIS – The Morris Theatre Guild will present the play “Yankee Tavern” for one weekend only at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

The setting is the crumbling Yankee Tavern, where tall tales get even taller with each beer and an attentive bartender lends an ear to the most outrageous teller in the room. A young couple soon finds themselves caught up in a terrifying conspiracy theory.

The cast for this fierce, funny and challenging show by Steven Dietz includes Matt Pasternak, Bill Gillespie, R. Scott Purdy and Amaria Vondran. Director Matt Johnson and assistant director Dawn Brunker encourage everyone to join them for this fascinating tale.

Tickets are available at www.morristheatreguild.org or by calling the box office at 815-942-1966. Although good seats still are available for the Friday and Saturday shows, only 10 seats still are available for Sunday, so those interested in attending might consider buying online to secure available tickets at $15 (plus handling fee) rather than the $20 price at the box office. The theater is located at 516 W. Illinois Ave. in Morris.
