Join the 21-week Equity Challenge

Free, online course will teach Illinoisans about racial issues, systemic inequalities

United Way

United Way of Grundy County is proud to join United Way of Illinois and other local United Ways across the state to embark on the 21-Week Equity Challenge and invites everyone to take this learning challenge.

After a year of unrest and strife, this free, online learning program will provide lessons and resources for Illinoisans to learn about racial issues and systemic inequalities.

The 21-Week Equity Challenge encourages individuals, families, friends and co-workers to have conversations about racial equity to gain a deeper understanding about the impact systemic racism and inequality have on our state and in our local communities.

The Equity Challenge is designed to be a powerful opportunity for shared learning, action and growth. The self-guided learning journey examines the history and impact of racism and how it has shaped people’s lives. The experience will deepen understanding and help launch a lifelong commitment to improving equity and inclusion.

The challenge takes place between Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 18, and Juneteenth, which celebrates June 19, 1865, the day the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, were emancipated. Through this period, participants will complete weekly learning assignments about equity, racism, bias and more. The 15-minute assignments include readings, videos and questions for participants to consider. Upon completion, participants will receive a digital certificate and tips and tools to help continue the conversation in their local community.

United, we can help create a stronger, more equitable Illinois economy and stronger, more inclusive Illinois communities.

The 21-Week Equity Challenge is supported by Healing Illinois, the state of Illinois, the Chicago Community Trust and United Way of Illinois.
