Roundup: Morris softball holds on to top Rochelle

Wiers, Dransfeldt each collect four hits for Redskins

ROCHELLE — The Morris softball team upended Interstate Eight Conference rival Rochelle, 10-8, Tuesday behind four-hit performances from Jaelyn Wiers and Kennedy Dransfeldt. Wiers finished with three RBIs, while Dransfeldt had a double.

Winning pitcher Ella Davis, who gave up three hits and struck out three, had three hits, including a double, and an RBI for the Redskins (9-6, 6-2), while Kylee Claypool (double, RBI) and Maddy Shannon (2 RBIs) each added two hits.

“We had to battle not only Rochelle today, but also the umps,” Morris coach Jen Bamonte said. “We should have been out of the game with the final of 10-4, but ended up having to really get six outs to end the game because of ridiculous calls. Even the other coach apologized to us.

“But, we fought through the adversity and came out ahead.”
