Knights to hold appreciation pig roast for first responders

Faranda's Banquet Center is ready to go to full capacity when COVID-19 restrictions are lifted. The state will be entering Phase 5 of the Restore Illinois plan June 11 which will allow many locations and businesses to return to normal operation.

DeKalb Knights of Columbus Council 717 will hold the 38th annual DeKalb County First Responder Appreciation Pig Roast on Thursday, July 22, at Faranda’s Banquet Center, 302 Grove St. in DeKalb.

Police and fire personnel from each department in DeKalb County will be treated to a complimentary pulled pork dinner as a small gesture to say thank-you for all they do in the community. The public is invited to enjoy dinner and the entertainment as well.

The event has been held every year since 1983 with the exception of last year, which was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The first several hog roasts were held on the Faivre family farm. Eventually, the dinner moved to the Knights of Columbus building on Lincoln Highway. This year, the event has moved to Faranda’s Banquet Center. The new arrangement will allow for better traffic flow and will accommodate a larger number of guests.

Pulled pork dinners with all the fixings will be available for pick-up (brought out to your car) or dine-in. Those who dine in will receive a soft drink and can enjoy live music from local rock band Project Nostalgia followed by well-known Back Country Roads. A full cash bar will be available as well as craft beer from Byers Brewing.

Tickets cost $15 for the drive-thru and $20 for dine-in and are on sale now at www.LincolnInnToGo.com. This event is expected to sell out so tickets should be purchased soon.

Dinner will be served from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Project Nostalgia will take the stage from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and Back Country Roads will perform from 7 to 9 p.m.

Local businesses are encouraged to support the event by purchasing blocks of tickets for employees and attending as a group or purchasing meals for first responders. Donations in any amount are appreciated. To donate or purchase group tickets, send a message through the DeKalb Knights of Columbus 717 Facebook page or call 815-758-4539 and leave a message.

The 38th annual DeKalb County First Responder Appreciation Pig Roast is supported by Northwestern Medicine, Pappas Development Inc., Country Financial Agents Dean Miller and Gavin Wilson, Faranda’s Banquet Center and Byers Brewing.
