DAWC hosts legacy writing workshop Friday

DeKALB – The DeKalb Area Women’s Center will host a Legacy Writing Workshop at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, to show people how to put together the story of their own lives, or the proper tribute for a loved one.

Phyllis Johnson, who has 20 of writing experience, including nonfiction books and obituaries, will give suggestions and grammar tips, with examples of different types of obituaries.

The women’s center, located at 1021 State St., has reopened according to CDC guidelines, which still require social distancing and facial coverings while in the building. Seating will be at the ends of 6-foot tables. There will be plenty of hand sanitizer.

Cost for attendance with materials provided at the event will be $5 at the door.

Attendees may bring fully charged laptop or tablet computers if they wish to keep a digital format obit. The building does not have Wi-Fi.

Reservations are required, via email to DeKalbAWC@gmail.com. All are welcome.
