COVID-19 outbreak causes temporary closure of Community Based Correctional Center

Virus number ticking up at jail since outbreak was identified

WAUKEGAN -- Due to three of 19 inmates who were serving sentenced time in the Community Based Correctional Center (work release) testing positive for COVID-19, the center will be temporarily closed per the guidance of health officials.

All CBCC inmates will be tested before being moved into the jail, according to a news release. Any work release inmate who tests positive will be transferred to the COVID-19 POD in the jail, while all who test negative will move to COVID-19 negative PODs.

The COVID-19 positive numbers have ticked up at the jail since the outbreak was identified and now includes 48 positive inmates and 11 positive correctional officers.  Those who have contracted the illness consist of both vaccinated and unvaccinated people.
