PM&L Theatre to present ‘Ripcord,’ a story of senior hijinks

ANTIOCH – “Ripcord,” a comedy by David Lindsay-Abaire, opens Oct. 8 and runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday through Oct. 24 at PM&L Theatre, 877 Main St. in Antioch.

“Ripcord” is about senior roommates and personality problems that lead to trouble with ridiculous consequences. Abby (Dee Finley), who is grumpy and stuck in her ways, is forced to share her pleasant, quiet room at the Bristol Place Senior Living Facility with a new roommate, the cheerful, unpredictable Marilyn (Paula Mantas).

During Abby’s attempts to get the newcomer reassigned, they agree to a bet that grows out of hand with neither one wanting to back down. The silly and fantastic antics soon involve staff (Scott Grimon) and family (Emily Gerretsen, Jeff Harding and Jim Stahl). Both women learn more about each other than they had planned as they try to resolve the room arrangement.

The artistic team is led by veteran director Deane Jones. The set and lights are designed by WOW Construction (Mark Audrain, Harold Newton, Gerard Wurster and David Zawrotny). Special effects and sound design are by Gene LeFave. Costume design is by Christen Dominguez. The show is stage managed by Regina Reynolds and produced by Jennifer Franco.

“Ripcord” will be at 8 p.m. Oct. 8, 9, 15, 16, 22 and 23. Sunday matinee performances will be at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 10, 17 and 24.

Tickets are available online at pmltheatre.com. Tickets are $18 for adults and $15 for students and seniors. The box office is open for phone (847-395-3055) and in-person lobby orders.
