WAUKEGAN – The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is participating in National Child Passenger Safety Week through Sept. 30.
Deputies will focus on enforcing child passenger safety laws to help ensure the safety of young children traveling in the community.
“Ensuring children are properly restrained while riding in a vehicle is imperative to their safety,” Sheriff John Idleburg said in a news release. “Please, always verify your car seats are installed correctly and children riding in the vehicle are properly restrained before venturing out in your vehicle.”
The focus of National Child Passenger Safety Week is to raise awareness and encourage all parents and caregivers to ensure their children are riding in appropriate car seats based on age and size. Proper installation also is key to making sure the seats are effective in protecting children.
The campaign is funded by federal traffic safety funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and administered through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
