Mason announces Create-A-Bill contest

Students invited to introduce ideas for legislation with chance to see government in action

GURNEE – State Rep. Joyce Mason, D-Gurnee, is sponsoring a Create-A-Bill contest for students across her district.

“Laws passed in Springfield have an impact on all people’s lives, and that includes students,” Mason said in a news release. “By creating their own bills, students can learn more about how laws are made and the impact they have on all of us.”

Mason is sponsoring a Create-A-Bill contest that runs until Dec. 1.

Individual students, groups or entire classes can submit their ideas for new legislation to Mason. The winning bill idea will be drafted and filed for consideration by the Illinois General Assembly to be passed into law. The contest winners will be invited to Springfield to see firsthand how state government works.

To learn more and enter the contest, call Mason’s office at 847-485-9986 or email Info@RepJoyceMason.com. Bill ideas can be submitted via email or mailed to 6615 Grand Ave. No. 217, Gurnee, IL 60031. The deadline is Dec. 1.

“As a mom, I know that kids and teenagers often come up with the most creative and compassionate ideas. I want to give them a chance to share those ideas and possibly see them become reality,” Mason said. “This is a chance for students to learn more about their state government and how laws can create real change in our neighborhoods.”
