Sheriff releases Independence Day traffic safety campaign results

Five impaired drivers arrested, 48 seatbelt citations issued

WAUKEGAN – Lake County sheriff’s deputies arrested five impaired drivers and issued 48 seat belt citations during the Independence Day “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” traffic safety campaigns.

Additionally, two individuals were arrested for unlawfully possessing firearms, three warrant arrests were made, four were cited for driving while their license was suspended, and 52 speeding citations were issued.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office joined forces with more than 200 other local law enforcement agencies from June 17 through July 6 to locate and arrest drunken and drugged drivers. The effort featured high-visibility enforcement combined with a variety of outreach activities, including a media campaign.

The enforcement period was funded by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation as part of the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” programs.
