BEACH PARK – Police are looking for a man whom they say sexually assaulted a 16-year-old girl who was on the Robert McClory Bike Path on June 7.
About 7:30 p.m. June 7, Lake County sheriff’s deputies responded to the Robert McClory Bike Path just north of Yorkhouse Road in Beach Park for a sexual assault that had just occurred, according to a news release.
Police say a 16-year-old girl was walking on the bike path when a man came out of the tree line and approached her. The man is described as Black, possibly in his 20s, about 5 feet, 11 inches tall and having a thin build. He had a number of metal barrettes in his hair, police said.
The man took the girl forcefully by the neck and shoved her to the ground, police said. He forcefully removed her clothing and sexually assaulted her, police said.
A nearby resident heard the girl screaming and began yelling for her to run to them for help, police said. The attacker fled on foot as the girl ran to the nearby resident, who called 911 for help, police said.
The girl was taken to an area hospital for treatment from injuries suffered during the attack.
A canine track was conducted by a Lake Forest police K-9 that led to an area where it is believed the offender fled in a vehicle, police said. Sheriff’s detectives and sheriff’s evidence technicians responded to the scene and continue to investigate.
