WAUKEGAN – The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is excited to introduce K-9 Danno.
K-9 Danno is a 20-month-old male German shepherd and the newest Lake County Sheriff’s Office recruit.
K-9 Danno met his human partner, Deputy Andrew Martini, on April 26. The two will undergo two months of intense training. The training will consist of canine psychology, obedience, agility, tracking and scent detection.
After the two-month training, K-9 Danno will be sworn in as a Lake County sheriff’s deputy.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office received almost 1,000 votes for K-9 names during the naming contest. Fifth grader Norah Gault of Barrington submitted the name Danno. Norah is a student in Barrington District 220.
“I think everyone who grew up watching ‘Hawaii Five-O’ will have a lighthearted appreciation for the name Danno,” Sheriff John Idleburg said. “We are very excited to welcome K-9 Danno to our team, and we are thrilled Norah Gault selected such a great name. I truly enjoyed the enthusiasm from the youth of our community in helping us pick out a name for our newest K-9.”
