Homemakers association to celebrate member’s 100th birthday

Dorothy Rodewald has been a member for 43 years

GRAYSLAKE -- 2020 was a bad year for the Volo unit of the Lake County Association for Home and Community Education because of COVID-19.

The group has been shut down but is hoping it will not be to long before they can start to meet again. The Extension office is still closed so they have no place to meet or do programming.  They will be sending the January lesson, “Medical Identity,” out to the members by email or through regular mail.

Group members have a celebration coming up. Member Dorothy Rodewald will be 100 on Jan. 27.  She has been a member for 43 years.

Dorothy and husband Curley raised ponies and collie dogs in their younger years. They came from Arlington Heights, where they owned a newspaper store and delivery service. Curley was the fire chief and also his son Bruce in Arlington Heights. The two grandsons both serve different communities as firefighters. He passed away a few years ago. Daughter Lynn lives in North Carolina and has two daughters.

Dorothy lives in Wauconda. The Volo Homemakers are so proud of Dorothy and congratulate her on being 100 years old.

They plan on her birthday, Jan. 27, to present her with flowers. Wauconda Township will recognize her with a cake. They will meet at 1 p.m. in her garage for the presentation, taking care to follow the guidelines for COVID virus. Masks for everyone.

If you know Dorothy, send a card or come for a short time at her home garage.
