Don’t Be afraid: it’s race time again

Looking to do a fun run? The Oswego Area Chamber of Commerce’s upcoming Fraidy Cat 5K, Ghost Run 8K & Meow Mile is a great opportunity to do just that.

This year’s 11th annual event is set for Sunday, Oct. 24, at Prairie Point Elementary School, 3650 Grove Road in Oswego.

The 5K, 8K & Meow Mile races are chip-timed at the start and finish. We have brought by the Tri-Series race. Do the Healthy Driven PSACC Harvest Run in Sept, the Naperville ½ Marathon or 5k on October 17th and the Fraidycat and get a special medal.

The Meow Mile steps off at 9 a.m., and the FraidyCat 5K and Ghost Run 8K follow at 9:30 a.m.

All runners, including virtual runners, will receive a tech shirt, drawstring gear bag, and finisher medal. Spectators are asked to spread out along the route and social distance.

For the Meow Mile, trophies will be presented to the top male and female finishers. All participants will receive a FraidyCat Ribbon and awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers in each age group.

Trophies for the FraidyCat 5K will be presented to the top three fastest overall male and female finishers. Age group medals will be given to the top three male and female finishers in each age group. The awards presentation will begin at approximately 10:45 a.m.

For the Ghost Run 8K, trophies will be presented to the top overall male and female finishers, as well as the top male and female finishers whose second 5K split is closest to their first 5K split.

Age group awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers in each age group. If you can’t stay around for awards, you may pick up your awards at the chamber office in the weeks following the race.

The 5k & 8K are USATF-IL certified courses.” We are using the new route that was created last year which is 80% or more on bike trails instead of streets which also lends to a safer race,” Hibben said.

Packet pickup will be at the Oswego Area Chamber office, 73 W. Van Buren, from Thursday, Oct. 21 to Saturday, Oct. 23. Runners can also pick up packets the morning of the race starting at 7 am.

Volunteers are needed on the course. Email info@oswegochamber.org for more details.
