Letter: Homecoming memories that will last a lifetime

To the Editor:

Another Yorkville High School Homecoming has come and gone, and the YHS Student Council would like to send out a special thank you to the members of our community who made it truly special. As always, thank you to the YHS/A administration, faculty and staff members who volunteered their time to supervise the events and celebrated the week with our students. Once again, our school and district custodial staff went above and beyond to help with the setup of the events. So thank you!

Thank you to all who participated in the parade. We had over 30 entries this year, which is fantastic. A special thank you to Boyd Ingemunson, Deb Priebe, Alisha Berry, Steve Eichhammer, Liz Skwarczynski, Nicole Pena, Joe and Terry Stancel, and Michelle Hill for driving our court members in the parade. Thank you to the fire department for keeping our bonfire in check and leading our parade. Police department: Thank you for making sure our students were safe all week and making the parade run smoothly.

The following district and community members went above and beyond to create a last-minute alternate dance location that our students are still talking about. First, to Justine and Jason Brummel, owners of Go For It Sports Dome: Your facility is amazing and was the perfect venue for the dance. You created memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you, as well, to Jackie Winter who worked with our team to set up the dance at Go For It Sports. Jeff Hansen of Raging Waves Waterpark: Thank you for the use of your facility so that our students could be transported to and from the dome and for helping set up and staying until our last kids got picked up. June McCord of Septran Bus Company: Thank you for lining up the drivers last minute to get our kids back and forth to the dance. And thank you to all your drivers who gave up a Saturday night to help. Caitlin Jess, our school nurse: Thank you for setting up the COVID-19 testing site so our students could safely bring guests to the dance. And finally, thank you to Heather DiVerde and Dave Yodelis of the Y115 district custodial staff. We certainly couldn’t have done this without your planning and expertise.
