Letter: A fitting tribute

keyboard, letter to the editor

To the Editor:

Wiley Updike, besides being a farmer, was part and parcel of the Sandwich Fair – serving, finally, as president. We regret to say that he died on May 5 at 91.

On Sunday, June 13, it was fitting that the visitation took place at the new Farm Zoo building and people did turn out, making for a long receiving line. We were there, in the line, grateful for the shade. The time in the long line gave us a chance to visit with many friends, so the crowd was not only a fine tribute to Wiley’s long service to the community, but a meet-and-greet time for us. Indeed, Wiley was a fine man.
