Yorkville School District officials advise parents of bus delays Monday due to driver shortage

Two grade schoolers board their bus during last school year.

Yorkville School District officials advised parents Sunday night they expected several of the district’s bus routes would run behind schedule on Monday due to a shortage of bus drivers.

In an email to parents, Kreg Wesley, director of business services for the district, cited an “extremely large absence of bus drivers” as the reason for the expected delays.

Wesley said the majority of the delayed routes were anticipated to be at the elementary school level.

“This is a unique time in our school’s history where on a day-to-day and week-to-week basis we are faced with multiple bus driver shortages due to a variety of circumstances,” Wesley wrote.

Wesley continued, “Specific communication details regarding individual routes and delayed times will be shared tomorrow morning (Monday) when they become available.

“I would like to thank our families who rely on our buses for your continued support and flexibility. The Yorkville team continues to prioritize, first and foremost, safe transportation for all students.”

“We are working closely with Septran, D115 contracted service provider, each day to help alleviate, support, and determine best solutions for these situations,” Welsey wrote.
