Still time to join new 4-H Crochet Club that starts in January

Winter is a great time to learn a new skill or experience something new. Why not try your hand at crochet?

Youth ages 8 to 18 can join the new 4-H Crochet Special Interest Club, which meets every other Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 5 through March 16 in Yorkville.

“Through our short-term SPIN clubs, kids and teens can get a sense of a new topic that interests them or focus on gaining greater skills in an area they already are passionate about,” said Kim Eisnaugle, a 4-H program coordinator with University of Illinois Extension.

This Crochet SPIN Club will focus on teaching basic crochet skills, and participants will learn through six fun, hands-on sessions. The tentative weekly projects include: a bead bracelet or necklace; a little monster; a bow, bow tie or flower; a headband or bro-bracelet; a hot pad and a covered hanger.

The cost is $30 a person, which includes the $10 materials fee and the annual $20 4-H enrollment for the 2021-22 4-H year. If a youth already has an approved, paid enrollment for this 4-H year, the cost is $10.

Appropriate safety measures such as face coverings and physical distancing will be followed for in-person programs. If you have any questions or need a reasonable accommodation to participate, contact Eisnaugle at 630-553-5823 or keisnaug@illinois.edu. Early requests are strongly encouraged to allow sufficient time for meeting your access needs.
