Montgomery announces winners in 18th annual River Run 5K, 10K

Proceeds benefit Montgomery VFW Post 7452, Hesed House and Rotary Club

The village of Montgomery hosted the 18th annual River Run 5K and 10K on Oct. 2 in the village’s downtown.

A total of 161 racers participated, with medals awarded to first- and second-place winners in each age category.

The race took place along the Fox River. Proceeds will benefit Montgomery VFW Post 7452, Rotary Club of Montgomery, and Hesed House. Village President Matt Brolley ran in the 5K along with his son, who placed second in his age category.

“One of our greatest assets is our riverside area along the Fox River. This race route is unlike many others in the area, and participants get the chance to run the full length of Montgomery along the river from the border of Aurora into Oswego and back,” Brolley said.

After the race, Atrevete Confections hosted Pie Palooza near the finish line, featuring tastings of their 18-holiday pie offerings, kids’ activities and games with prizes, pumpkin painting and other seasonal fun. The top female and male in each race received bragging rights and a free pie from Atrevete.

  • 5K Female: Heidi Schmidt of Elgin, 28:09.0
  • 5K Male: Brandon Sottosanti of Aurora, 17:17.0
  • 10K Female: Lindsey Antoniuk of Montgomery, 48:03.0
  • 10K Male: Ron Jaegle of Aurora, 39:09.0.
