Sandwich Public Library District Board seeks trustees to fill vacancies

The Sandwich Public Library District Board of Trustees is seeking candidates who are interested in serving on the Library Board. Two qualified candidates will be appointed by the board to replace the two positions that are currently vacant.

Interested district residents should submit an introductory personal statement that includes brief answers to the following:

• Why are you interested in serving as a library trustee?

• What work experiences, skills, and strengths can you offer as a trustee?

• What would you see as some of the challenges faces libraries today?

• What do you believe is a library’s role in the community?

The board is composed of seven trustees who must be residents of the Sandwich Public Library District. On average, the trustee position requires a time commitment of about 6 to 8 hours a month, which includes 1 to 2 meetings and preparation. Trustees serve without compensation and must be available to attend the monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month. Each trustee also is expected to serve on 1 to 2 committees that meet periodically throughout the year.

If you are a community member interested in making a difference by becoming involved in the library district’s planning and decision-making, consider this opportunity to serve on the Library Board.

Statements of interest should be submitted to the board president by May 4. Interested candidates are encouraged to attend the regular board meeting May 11, if possible, to observe a board meeting in action.

The board will induct all newly elected and appointed trustees at the June 8 meeting.
