Hydrant flushing in Sandwich April 26-30

The city of Sandwich Public Works Department will be flushing fire hydrants from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, April 26, through Friday, April 30.

Flushing may cause some discoloration of water. This does not represent a health hazard. However, customers are cautioned to determine if the water is clear before washing clothes (or any other processing), as staining may occur. If you experience discolored water, avoid using hot water until the discoloration clears, and run your cold water for about five minutes to clear your service line.

If you do have laundry damaged by discolored water, avoid drying the clothes. Rust remover can be picked up at Sandwich City Hall, 144 E. Railroad St., between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Call in advanced to make arrangements to pick up the rust remover.

The Sandwich Water Department regrets any temporary inconvenience customers may experience. However, the flushing program is necessary to maintain a good water supply for both fire fighting and domestic consumption.

Lead notice: While it is not known for certain if a residence has a lead service line coming into the house, visit epa.gov/lead to determine if there is lead service line coming into a house or if there are plumbing fixtures inside that may contain lead.
