Mass vaccination clinic for Yorkville, Plano, Newark 16-18 year-olds this Thursday

Parents to receive registration link Tuesday as 1,170 vaccine doses become available for local students

Older students attending Yorkville, Plano and Newark school districts are eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine at mass vaccination events set for this Thursday, April 15.

The three school districts will be sending parents of students ages 16-18 a registration link to sign up for appointments at the clinics overseen by the Kendall County Health Department.

Only 1,170 Pfizer vaccine doses are available for the clinics at local high schools, according to Melinda Lasky, director of student services for Yorkville schools.

The vaccination clinic for teens was first announced by Kendall County Health Department Executive Director RaeAnn VanGundy at a county board meeting April 7.

“(It’s) just to make sure we get these older classmates vaccinated so they can get back to their sports and sports activities over the summer,” VanGundy said.

Illinois formally extended vaccine eligibility to residents 16 years and up on Monday, April 12. The Pfizer vaccine remains the only shot authorized for 16 year olds.
