Plano Middle School student wins spelling bee in 25th round

Aliyah Reyna wins on ‘feta’; Mariam Garcia is runner-up

A total of 11 Plano Middle School seventh and eighth-grade students recently participated in the school’s annual spelling bee.

It was a very intense competition that lasted 25 rounds, school officials reported. In the end, seventh-grade student Aliyah Reyna won the championship. The winning word was “feta.” Eighth-grade student, Mariam Garcia, was runner-up.

Reyna will advance to the Kendall-Grundy County Spelling Bee. The winner of the regional spelling bee will advance to the National Scripps Spelling Bee held in Orlando, Florida.

In a statement, Plano Middle School officials said they are very proud of all this year’s spelling bee participants.
