A 41-year-old Plano man died from injuries he suffered in a crash involving three semitrailers on Interstate 294 in southwest suburban Chicago Ridge early Tuesday morning, March 2, according to Illinois State Police.

In a statement, state police said the crash occurred at about 3:46 a.m. at milepost 18.7. The crash forced the shutdown of three lanes of traffic on the interstate until about 10 a.m.

State police did not release the name of the Plano man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

State police said their preliminary investigation indicates the crash occurred when the semitrailer driven by the Plano man failed to reduce speed and struck the rear of another semitrailer that was traveling at a reduced rate of speed because of heavy traffic.

The semitrailer that was struck in the rear then struck the rear of a third semitrailer that also was traveling at a reduced rate of speed.
