Oswego School Board votes to approve third phase of hybrid learning for students

No change for elementary, junior high and high school to switch to 4 days in-person for 5 hours

The Oswego School District 308 Board of Education voted to approve plans for the third phase of hybrid learning for the district’s elementary, junior high and high school students Monday evening, March 1, following a public forum in the Oswego East High School Performing Arts Center.

The board voted 5-2, to leave the elementary plan as it was originally proposed by administrators Feb. 22, meaning that the district’s hybrid elementary students will attend school in-person for four mornings a week for instruction in reading, math and writing. In the afternoon, students receive digital instruction in art, music, physical education, and will be able to have independent work time.

The schedules for special education students in elementary schools will not change. The schedules for early childhood students will also remain the same.

The board also voted 6-1 to shift the junior high and high school schedules to four days a week of in-person learning for five hours a day.

Students will follow the Phase 2 schedule where in-person attendance for junior high students will run from 8:05 a.m. until 1:05 p.m. High school students will attend in-person from 7:20 a.m. until 12:20 p.m. Student Support Time (SST) will be available for students Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Junior high students will have SST from 2:15 p.m. until 3 p.m.; high school students will have SST from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m.

Wednesdays will remain in remote learning days under the Phase 3 plan, with students taking part in Go Live! sessions. Junior high and high school students will not eat lunch at school under this plan.

Information regarding scheduling for special education students in junior high and high school will be released in the coming days.

The plans will take effect April 7, following the conclusion of the district’s Spring Break.

Communication regarding the new plans will be sent to teachers by March 3 and parents by March 4. Parents who may wish to switch their student from in-person to remote learning, or from remote to in-person will be asked to submit their choice no later than March 10.
