Oswego School District 308 reports rise in COVID-19 cases among staff, students

Oswego School District 308 reported an increase in COVID-19 cases among district students and staff members over the past week.

For the week of Jan. 17-23, the district reported 208 positive cases of the virus among students, 86 more than the 122 positive cases reported by the district for the week of Jan. 10-16, according to school district data.

The number of district students in exclusion due to exposure to the virus also increased over the prior week, from 186 the week of Jan. 10-16 to 240 for the week of Jan. 17-23.

The district reported that 31 staff members tested positive for the virus the week of Jan. 17-23, 17 more than the 14 cases reported among staff members for the week of Jan. 10-16.

The number of district staff members in exclusion due to exposure from the virus for the week of Jan. 17-23 was 13, up from four for the prior week.

Of the 208 positive COVID-19 cases reported among students from Jan. 17-23, 95 were at the elementary school level, 53 were at the junior high school level and 59 were at the high school level. An additional case was reported at another district facility.

The largest number of positive COVID-19 cases among students was 41 at Oswego High School, followed by 18 at Oswego East High School, 16 at Murphy Junior High School in Plainfield, 15 at Hunt Club Elementary School in Oswego, 12 at Traughber Junior High School in Oswego, and 11 at The Wheatlands in Aurora. All other district schools had a lesser number of cases.

Of the 31 positive cases of the virus reported among staff members over the past week, 12 were at district elementary schools, nine were at junior high schools and 10 were at the high school level.
