Indian Valley Vocational Center hosts awards night

Indian Valley Vocational Center, 600 Lions Road, Sandwich

Indian Valley Vocational Center (IVVC) hosted its annual Awards Night on May 6 at the Montcler Hotel. Local and memorial scholarships were presented. Recognition of graduating seniors with certificates of completion was the highlight of the evening. Several hundred family members and friends were in attendance to congratulate all of these students on their accomplishments.

Scholarships were awarded to the following local students: Sandwich Rotary Club--Monzerrat Padilla of Yorkville; John “Swanie” Swanson Memorial--Caleb Gomes of Sandwich and Luis Navarro of Plano; Doran Greif Memorial--Caleb Gomes of Sandwich and Luis Navarro of Plano; Rose Greif Memorial--Kiley Duffy of Sandwich; Festival on Wheels/Tom Ciolek Memorial--Michael Hillesheim of Yorkville; John Kedzierski Memorial --Caleb Gomes of Sandwich; Richard Wasson Memorial--Nevada Beatty of Sandwich; Pruski Memorial--Catrina Mitchell of Sandwich; Dr. Lucile Gustafson--Paula Ferrer of Sandwich; Student Service Award--Cassandra Weber of Sandwich and Ellie Hauge of Newark; Yorkville Junior Women’s Club--Paulina Rubio of Yorkville; Illinois Restaurant Association Educational Foundation--Austin Lane of Yorkville.

Seniors from IVVC’s 17 career and technical programs were presented with certificates of completion. The following students were recognized as Most Outstanding in their programs: Auto Body Repair--Michael Hillesheim of Yorkville; Auto Technology--Aedan Caraher of Sandwich, Riley Benning of Yorkville, Caleb Gomes of Sandwich; CNA--Rachel Martinez of Plano; Computer Programming--Andrew Szafranski of Sandwich; Computer Technology--Veasna Schwingle of Sandwich; Construction Trades--Colton James of Sandwich; Culinary Arts-Carey Coakley of Sandwich; EMS--Catrina Mitchell of Sandwich; Fire Science--Maurice Sandifer of Plano; Health Occupations--Akhaia Thurmond of Sandwich, Logan S. Nelson of Sandwich; Law Enforcement--Ethan Hall of Sandwich, Tayhler Srachta of Yorkville; Teaching Methods--Jamie Larson of Sandwich.

The following students were recognized as Most Improved in their program areas: Computer Programming-- Caiden Konow of Plano; Fire Science--Nevada Beatty of Sandwich; Teaching Methods--Savannah Kinser of Sandwich.

Indian Valley Vocational Center is a career center for high school juniors and seniors located in Sandwich. Ten school districts (Earlville, Hinckley-Big Rock, Indian Creek, Leland, Newark, Plano, Sandwich, Serena, Somonauk, Yorkville) participate in the Indian Valley cooperative which currently offers 17 career and technical programs.
