Yorkville police arrest convicted sex offender at local elementary school

Suspect was an employee of an outside organization that provides COVID-19 testing services in schools

Yorkville police arrested Geovanni A. Delgado, 23, of the 14000 block of Naperville Road, Plainfield, on a felony charge of being a convicted sex offender in a prohibited zone at 5:40 p.m. Nov. 1 at Autumn Creek Elementary School on the city’s north side.

In a statement issued jointly by police and Yorkville School District 115, police said Delgado was taken into custody and transported to the Kendall County Jail in Yorkville.

Delgado later posted bond and was released pending a court appearance, according to the county sheriff’s office.

Police said they were summoned to the school at 2377 Autumn Creek Boulevard Monday evening on a report of an individual who was prohibited from being on school grounds.

Police said officers made contact with Delgado in the school gymnasium and verified that he is a convicted sex offender and is not allowed to be on school grounds.

Police said they learned that Monday was Delgado’s first day as an employee of a third-party organization that provides COVID-19 testing services in school district facilities. A student group was meeting in the school cafeteria at the time of Delgado’s arrest, but there was no known contact between the suspect and students.

The third-party testing organization will no longer be allowed to provide its own employees for COVID-19 clinics in Yorkville School District facilities, according to police.

Police ask that anyone who may have further information related to this incident to contact them at 630-553-4343.
