Yorkville man stopped for speeding violation on Route 34 arrested on weapons charges

Yorkville police arrested a Yorkville man on weapons charges after stopping the vehicle he was driving for a speeding violation at 3:41 a.m. Sept. 23 on Route 34 at Autumn Creek Boulevard.

In a statement, police said Xavier Y. Ward, 25, of the 1300 block of Orchid Street was cited for speeding and has been charged with two counts each of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

After officers pulled over Ward’s 2006 Audi for traveling in excess of 35 mph over the posted speed limit, police said Ward and a passenger in his car were asked to exit their vehicle as it was to be towed. Police said officers then located a 9mm pistol inside the vehicle.

Police said Ward was taken into custody and transported to the Kendall County Jail In Yorkville pending court proceedings.
