Oswego police continuing investigation into fatal crash involving a pedestrian on Mill Road

Oswego police are continuing their investigation into a fatal crash involving a pedestrian that occurred at approximately 6:40 a.m. July 1 on Mill Road on the village’s west side.

In a press statement, police identified the deceased pedestrian as Antonio J. Villarreal, 32, of Oswego.

Police said Villarreal was struck by a Nissan Sentra traveling eastbound on Mill Road driven by Jaylin K. Buckner, 19, of Oswego.

The collision occurred as Villarreal attempted to cross Mill Road at Washington Street to Lynx Lane, according to police.

Police said Oswego Fire Protection District paramedics transported Villarreal to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead from the injuries he sustained in the crash.

Police said Buckner was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. Paramedics also transported Buckner to an area hospital where he was treated for minor injuries he sustained in the crash.

Mill Road was shutdown to traffic from Route 31 to Washington Street for approximately four and one-half hours following the crash to allow police to conduct a reconstruction of the collision.
