Car stolen from Yorkville driveway recovered; suspect charged

A Yorkville man was arrested on a charge of motor vehicle theft late Thursday night, March 4.

In a statement, Yorkville police identified the suspect as Travys I. Washington, 31, of the 1600 block of Cypress Lane.

Police said they were summoned at 9:41 p.m. Thursday to the 1600 block of Cypress Lane on a report of a 2018 Hyundai Elantra sedan being stolen from a driveway. Police said the vehicle had been left running and unattended for about five minutes prior to being stolen.

At approximately 10:45 p.m. police said members of the Kendall County Criminal Intelligence Team located the vehicle outside a hotel in the 500 block of East Kendall Drive in Yorkville. While searching the area, police said they located Washington who subsequently confessed to taking the vehicle.

Washington was transported to the Kendall County Jail where his bond was set at $5,000.
