Plano man arrested in Sandwich after hit and run crash, police pursuit

A Plano man was arrested on multiple charges following a reported hit and run crash and police pursuit incident at 1:23 p.m. Feb. 27 in the area of South and Lew streets.

In a statement, police identified the suspect as Luis A. Arriaga, 32, of the 400 block of Sweetbriar Place.

According to the statement, Arriaga faces charges of driving while license suspended, operating an uninsured vehicle, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, disobeying a stop sign, improper lane usage, fleeing and eluding a police officer and aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer.

In the statement, police said the suspect’s vehicle, which had left the crash scene, returned to the scene and was identified by observers as officers were investigating the crash.

According to police, the suspect’s vehicle then fled the scene at a high rate of speed westbound on Route 34 and was pursued by officers into the city of Sandwich where it eventually came to a stop in the area of Route 34 and Sandy Bluff Road.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Arriaga, was taken into custody without incident. Arriaga was transported to the Kendall County Jail to await a bond hearing.

Sandwich police assisted Plano police in investigating the incident, according to the statement.
