Girls Basketball: The Record Newspapers All-Area team

Here is the Record Newspapers All-Area girls basketball team.

First Team

Claire Allen, Sandwich, junior: Sandwich’s 6-foot post, a medalist in the shot put and discus in track and field last spring, became go-to player this season for a young team with only two seniors who reached regional final. Allen averaged 11.4 points and shot free throws at an impressive 76.3% clip (100 for 131).

Riley Doggett, Oswego East, junior: Two-time all-conference pick was leader of Wolves’ team that reached regional final. Doggett averaged team-high 11 points and six rebounds, as well as two steals and 1.5 assists. The third-year varsity player was a key defender, matching up against both post players and guards throughout the year.

Cami Phillips, Oswego East, sophomore: Quick guard tremendous with the dribble defended other teams’ best guard or point guard most games. Phillips scored a career-high 20 points in Oswego East’s regional semifinal win over Naperville Central. On the year, she averaged 11 points, tied with Doggett for team-best, with 3.5 rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Kellie Snyder, Newark, junior: A tremendous rebounder, Snyder frequently guarded opponents’ best player. Snyder had sensational 29-point, 20-rebound game in sectional semifinal win over Schaumburg Christian. On the season, she averaged 10.3 points, 11.4 rebounds and 3.3 steals.

Alex Stewart, Yorkville, junior: Third-year varsity guard, also a member of Foxes’ state cross country team, led Yorkville in multiple statistical categories. Stewart averaged team-best 11.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.9 steals and 1.7 deflections per game, and also 1.1 assists. She shot 32.7% from the field and 68% from the free-throw line.

Second Team

Felicity Allgood, Yorkville Christian, senior: Team captain and only senior on Mustangs’ team was all-tournament at Reed-Custer. On the season Allgood averaged 15 points with a season-high game of 27. Will play college softball at Waubonsee.

KJ Friestad, Newark, senior: On a balanced Newark sectional finalist, Friestad averaged 9.9 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. She was named all-tournament at the Ottawa Holiday Tournament.

Liz Griswold, Parkview Christian, junior: Junior forward was a leader of Falcons team that won its first 19 games and finished with a 23-1 record. Griswold averaged team-high 18.1 points and 11.8 rebounds, and 3.6 steals.

Katie Jorgensen, Oswego East, senior: All-conference pick was Wolves’ team captain for two years in a row and was second on Wolves in rebounding. Jorgensen averaged seven points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists and two steals. Defended many post players this season with success.

Parkview Christian sophomore Gracie Lambes

Gracie Lambes, Parkview Christian, sophomore: Keyed Falcons’ team that won their first 19 games and finished with a 23-1 record. Lambes averaged 16.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 3.6 steals and made 26 3-pointers. Had a season-high game of 35 points, and scored 24 points in a win over Christian Liberty in the championship game of the Illinois Christian Conference tournament.

Danielle Bulson, Yorkville Christian, freshman; Josie Larson, Plano, freshman; Kenzie Phillips, Yorkville, senior; Molly Roberts, Sandwich, senior; Kaila Schlinger, Oswego, senior; Ryssa Woodhouse, Plano, junior.
