High school sports roundup for Friday, March 5: Mason Accidentale’s 30 points lead Plano past Morris

BOYS BASKETBALL

Plano 69, Morris 53

Mason Accidentale scored 30 points and hit three of the Reapers’ seven 3-pointers. Tristan Canfield added 11 points and Josh Padilla nine on three threes for Plano (5-9, 4-7), which outscored Morris 22-9 in the third quarter to overcome a three-point halftime deficit.

Plainfield South 61, Yorkville 45

Indian Creek 63, Newark 47

Drew Gaston scored 17 points and Cam Russell 16 for Indian Creek.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Yorkville 44, Plainfield South 33

Kenzie Senffner scored 23 points and hit five 3-pointers, as the Foxes won their second in a row. Kenzie Phillips added seven points, going 7-for-10 from the free-throw line, for Yorkville (4-6).

GIRLS BOWLING

Oswego

Oswego wrapped up a busy week with four straight competitions between Monday and Thursday.  The week kicked off at Parkside Lanes with senior night on Monday, followed by the crosstown against Oswego East on Tuesday.  Then the team traveled to Town and Country Lanes in Joliet to take on Plainfield South on Wednesday before returning home to Parkside Lanes on Thursday against Joliet Central.  Both the Panther varsity and JV squads went undefeated on the week.  The varsity team improved their record to 8-2 while Oswego’s JV team improved to 9-1 on the season.

The varsity team averaged 188 across the four days of competition and it was a total team effort as each night saw a different Panther bowler lead the team in scoring.  Over the four-day stretch of competitions, Oswego won 11 out of the 12 games they played.  The team capped off the week with their best performance of the season against Joliet Central as they rolled team scores of 985, 1,001, and 993 and finished the series just 21 pins shy of averaging 200 as a team (2,979 series). The team reached a milestone in game two as they shot their first team game score over one-thousand on the season.

On Monday against West Aurora, sophomore Katelyn Watson led the Panthers with a 621 series (207 average) that included games of 201, 181, and 237.  On Tuesday, sophomore Lani Breedlove had a slow start in game one but turned it around in game two and finished the night as the high bowler for OHS with a 624 series (208 average) on games of 153, 235, and 236.

The Panthers went on the road on Wednesday and it was a great trip for senior Lily Ratledge who led the team with a 575 series (192 average) that included games of 184, 210, and 181.  To cap off the busy week of competition, senior captain Savanna Jourdan rolled games of 166, 227, and 238 to lead the Panthers with a series of 631 (210 average).

BOYS BOWLING

Oswego East 2,807, Geneseo 2,283

Varsity behind a stellar performance by sophomore Nick Panozzo.  Panozzo scored a personal best 288 stringing together 10 strikes in a row to lead the Wolves with a 668 series.  Liam Fitzpatrick, Dylan Funk, Robert Vieira and Ethan Potts all threw over 500 series.

JV lost 0-3, 2,081 - 2,564.  Junior John Koutsogiannis led the squad with a 485.  Brady Finn knocked down 503 supported by a pair of Turkeys in a mixed squad effort.
