High school sports roundup for Tuesday, Jan. 25: Mason Accidentale scores 31, but Plano loses to Serena at last second

BOYS BASKETBALL

Serena 70, Plano 69

Serena won on a free throw after time expired from Ben Shugrue, who blocked a Mason Accidentale shot at the top of the key with 2.5 seconds left, Shugrue got the rebound, drove to the basket and was fouled at the buzzer. Accidentale had 31 points and Samuel Sifuentes 10 points for Plano (11-8).

Oswego East 63, Plainfield East 49

Patrick Robinson scored 19 points and DeVon Oregon 16 for the Wolves (23-1, 11-0 Southwest Prairie Conference).

Oswego 55, Joliet Central 50

Kyle Zeck scored 18 points to lead the short-handed Panthers past Joliet Central.

Plainfield South 43, Yorkville 37

Jason Jakstys scored 16 points, LeBaron Lee 10 and John Swarn seven, but the Foxes (8-14, 2-9) couldn’t overcome a slow start and tough finish at Plainfield. The Cougars began the game on a 13-0 run before the Foxes finally got on the scoreboard. Yorkville trailed 15-4 after the 1st quarter and 22-12 at half. The Foxes came back in the third quarter to take a 29-26 lead into the fourth, but the Cougars outscored the Foxes 17-8 in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Newark 44, Morris 23

Kellie Snyder had 11 points, 14 rebounds and three steals and Lindsey Hatteberg nine points and three assists for the Norsemen (13-6).

Parkview Christian 53, Families of Faith Christian Academy 13

Junior Liz Griswold compiled a game-high 16 points while sophomore Gracie Lambes and junior Maddie Linden also provided consistent scoring for the Falcons (12-0).

Kaneland 61, Plano 25

Josie Larson scored 11 points for Plano (3-21, 1-10).
