BASEBALL

Newark 11, Hinckley-Big Rock 0

Joe Martin struck out 16 in a complete-game one-hitter for the Norsemen. Mitch Kruser, Jake Kruser and Tegan Kruser each had two hits for Newark.

Oswego 4, West Aurora 3

Devin Hoffman struck out four and allowed zero earned on three hits and a walk over 5.2 innings, and the Panthers (7-3, 2-2 Southwest Prairie West) scored two runs in each of the first and second innings. Brady Peterlin went 2-for-2 with a double, run scored and two RBIs and Gavin Arseneau was 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Yorkville Christian 10, Alden-Hebron 0

Blake Salek struck out 10 over five one-hit innings, Donny Barbanente drove in three runs and Brett Bridel and Trey Lombardo each had two RBIs for the Mustangs (8-4, 5-1).

SOFTBALL

Newark 8, Dwight 7

The Lady Norsemen scored two runs in the fourth, three in the fifth and a tie-breaking run in the sixth to rally from a 6-1 deficit. Kaitlyn Schofield struck out eight over 4.1 innings and had four hits. Danica Peshia had two hits and four RBIs.

Joliet West 8, Oswego East 4

Megan Leonard went 2-for-4 with a homer, single and two RBIs for the Wolves (7-2, 3-1), who had a seven-game winning streak snapped. Mia Corres was 1-for-4 with an RBI and stolen base.
