Riley Doggett scored 12 points, Maddie Stockley 11 and Katie Jorgensen made a free throw with 4.6 seconds left to seal the Wolves’ win over the Foxes. Cydnei Mitchell added eight pionts off the bench for Oswego East (3-5, 2-1). The two teams were tied 24-24 at halftime, and Yorkville took a four-point lead in the fourth quarter.
“We were able to cut the lead and get some big stops in a back and forth game,” Wolves coach Abe Carretto said.
Alex Stewart scored 14 points, Ava Hendershott 10 and Kenzie Phillips nine for Yorkville (1-8, 0-3).
Yorkville Christian 46, IMSA 39
Danielle Bulson had a triple double with 16 points, 11 assists and 11 rebounds and Felicity Allgood had a double-double with a team-high 22 points and 13 rebounds for the Mustangs.
West Aurora 43, Oswego 40
Kaila Schlinger scored 10 points and Riley Borrowman and Emily Mengerink each scored eight for Oswego.
Serena 34, Sandwich 27
Claire Allen scored 13 points and Maggie Knepper, Molly Roberts and Alexis Sexton each added four for Sandwich (2-6).
West Aurora 58, Oswego 57 (OT)
Morris 49, Sandwich 32
Evan Gottlieb had six points and three rebounds, Austin Marks four points and six rebounds and Saulo Rodriguez five points for Sandwich.
“We fought hard tonight but came up short,” Sandwich coach Kevin Kozan said. “We had a little momentum in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to 12 but give Morris credit as they executed down the stretch. As a team we have things to work on but they are very fixable for us. When we compete we can be very excited but we have to learn how to compete for all 32 minutes.”
The Panthers won the 19-team Fremd Valhalla Invite on Saturday. The varsity team shot a tournament high team score of 1,080 in game one to jump out to a nice lead on the field. After an 898 in game two followed by 1,007 to end the morning round, the Panthers finished the morning with a team average of just under 200 with a total of 2,985.
Junior Katelyn Watson led the team in the morning with a 662 series on games of 235, 201, and 226. Senior Evelyn James rolled a 602 morning series and her score of 248 in game one earned her the high game of the tournament.
Junior anchor bowler Lani Breedlove was clutch in the afternoon as she rolled games of 182, 240, and 225 on the dry shot with Downers Grove South not far behind. Breedlove was the tournament champion, finishing the day with a 206 average, and all five Oswego bowlers finished in the top 15 of the tournament. Katelyn Watson earned a fifth place medal by averaging 195 on the day. James was 11th and Hailey Jourdan was 12th place overall, finishing with a 185 and 180 average respectively. Finishing in 15th place to round out the Panther varsity squad was Amber Lymenstull who had a 173 average for the tournament.
