High school sports roundup for Monday, Sept. 20: Medalist Gavin Hjelle leads Oswego East golfers to Minooka Invite title

BOYS GOLF

Minooka Invite

Gavin Hjelle shot a 73 to earn medalist honors, leading Oswego East to the team title at the 11-team Minooka Invite. Oswego East shot a 317, followed by Minooka (330), Batavia (346) and Yorkville (350). Oswego (371) was ninth.

Yorkville’s Ryan Waugh shot a 74 for second individually, with Oswego East’s Camden Bonney (75) third. Oswego’s Ty Ahrens was seventh (81) and Jack Rimington eighth (83) with Oswego East’s Michael Hugelier ninth (83).

La Salle-Peru 169, Sandwich 195

Noah Campbell shot Sandwich’s low score of 45, followed by Kadin Kern’s 48 and 51 by Sam Dawson and Nick Sullivan at Edgebrook.

GIRLS GOLF

Yorkville 190, Oswego Co-Op 196

Mia Natividad shot a 41, Laine Leonard a 44, Maddie Battaglia a 49 and Grace Taylor a 56 for the Foxes (5-4 conference) to close out Southwest Prairie Conference play.

Natividad was named the SPC points winner, receiving the highest four points each match for all nine conference matches for a total of 36 points.

Katelin Hong shot a 42 and Gracie Vlach a season-low 48 for Oswego Co-Op.

Alijah Campbell shot a team-leading score of 41, leading the Indians to their lowest nine-hole scorer of the year at Deer Park Golf Course in Oglesby. Melody Goldstein and Georgia Vehe each had new personal low scores of 49 and 51. Jayden Baumbach chipped in with a 54.

Johnathon Carlson had six saves in goal for the Indians (0-13-1, 0-7).

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Yorkville Christian d. Chicago Hope 25-9, 25-12

Chloe Saxe had eight assists, four kills, five aces and 12 service points, Nina Schuberth six assists, four kills, three aces and seven service points and Zoe Schuberth four assists, four digs and seven service points for the Mustangs (10-0). Joey Wolgast chipped in with three kills.

Earlville d. Sandwich 25-22, 25-23

Alexis Sexton had 16 assists, 10 service points and five digs and Claire Allen eight kills and three digs for Sandwich (9-11). Emily Gomez added nine digs and Melissa Pfaff five kills and three digs.
